Gotham used to play a large part in the diamond industry, providing 36% of the country’s precious gems. These days, the mines have run dry and long since been filled in or built over but there are still several jewelry shops and gem dealers around town, and the Diamond District has kept its name. It houses some of Gotham’s oldest buildings and was one of the first areas built on when Gotham began to expand out of old Gotham several hundred years ago.
