Nine Lives boxing Club

District: The Bowery

Nine Lives Boxing Club is run by former professional boxer Ted Grant. The club was founded in the 1930s and was formerly named the Bowery Boxing Club, but vandalism dragged the place into disrepair. Ted Grant bought the establishment from its owner and refurbished it, offering boxing classes for an affordable price, targeting the city’s wayward youth. Ted teaches discipline and outlets for violent energy.

  • The Club’s Motto is ‘Non Viscara…Non Gloria’ (No Guts…No Glory).

  •

  • There’s a bit of a ‘good old boys’ attitude but Ted will train women; he’s just a bit old-fashioned.

  •

  • Classes range from beginner to intermediate to advanced and Ted has been known to take serious amateur boxers under his wing to help develop the talent of tomorrow.
