The glass key

District: Robbinsville

Fancy yourself the next Humphrey Bogart or Lauren BaCall, or maybe you just fancy watching them. Either way, The Glass Key is the place for you. The one time fixer-upper has become a quiet and trendy hotspot among cinema enthusiasts. Half-cinema, half 1940s style bar and cocktail lounge, the building has been restored to its once historic glory. The cinema shows only noir and heavily noir influenced films, with screenings running until around 11pm. After the cinema closes, most customers retreat to the bar to be treated to alcohol and live music of the era until last round at 2am.

  • The venue also hosts the occasional murder mystery night.

  •

  • Every second week in August, the building hosts a summer film noir festival which includes costume parties, special guests and lectures as well as the usual screenings.

  •

  • The place is incredibly popular among film students.

  •

  • There’s no official dress code, except on costume nights, in which case everyone has to wear something era appropriate.

  •

  • The venue is named for the 1942 film of the same name, starring Brian Donlevy and Veronica Lake.
